Carefree, Arizona was founded in the 1950's.
Carefree is one of the earliest planned communities in Arizona.
Carefree can boast of having the largest Sundial in the Western
Hemisphere. Carefree has gained a reputation for its beauty -- the
unique rock outcroppings and boulders visible for miles -- its
nationally-known residents and visitors and our shopping and
recreational amenities. The art galleries, cultural events, unique
shops and restaurants attest to our fine reputation.
Carefree and it's neighbor Cave
Creek each have their own distinct personality,
although both are located in the same remarkable Sonoran Desert
overlooking the Valley of the Sun. Cave Creek has retained most of
it's old west pioneer character, whereas Carefree represents pure
urban sophistication.
The combined population is around
6,000. Carefree and Cave Creek both offer unique shopping and
dining opportunities, as well as accommodations ranging from
beautiful resorts to quaint bed & breakfast inns.
Situated approximately 20 miles north
of Phoenix at an elevation of 2,500 feet, the temperatures range
from 8-10 degrees cooler than the valley. Low humidity and cooler
temperatures encourage a wide range of activities, including
hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, golfing, Tennis and jeep
touring. The serene, saguaro-studded countryside, decorated with
natural outcroppings of massive sand-colored boulders and alive
with jackrabbits and other desert dwellers, are great attractions
for new residents.
Carefree has an open, even capricious
approach to life. Many unique retail stores and other businesses
rest on Easy Street. Two of the three banks are on Wampum Way; and
visitors can arrange to meet friends at the intersection of Ho &
Hum roads. Golf courses here and in the surround- foothills are
woven into the landscape, making them some of the most scenic in
our state. The Tonto National Forest, borders the towns on two
sides, and the Verde River, is a favorite of river runners.
People seeking solace in nature, with
only the city lights far in the distance to remind them of
civilization, will want to call Carefree/Cave Creek home. |
