Sun Lakes is a master planned community developed by a single builder, Robson Communities. Sun Lakes is located just outside the great Phoenix metro area. As of the census of 2000, there were 11,936 people, 6,683 households, and 4,798 families residing in Sun Lakes. Of Sun Lakes 6,683 households 0.1% had children under the age of 18 living at home, 69.5% were married couples living together, 1.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% were non-families. 25.8% of all households were single residents living alone and 20.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.79 and the average family size was 2.06.
