Bentonville, Arkansas is located in Benton County which became the first
county established in the state of Arkansas in 1836. Bentonville has
developed a rich history. Located in scenic northwest Arkansas, with
30,000-acre Beaver Lake nearby, Bentonville's population has been growing at
a rapid rate. A special census in 1995 showed a population of 15,363 which
was up from 11,257 in 1990. The 2000 Census shows our population as 19,730. Bentonville has a mayor-city council form of government. The Bentonville Parks Commission, Advertising & Promotion Commission, Library Board, Airport Commission, Planning Commission, Historic District Committee, Tree & Landscape Committee, and the Board of Adjustments are city groups of commissions that contribute to the community. Bentonville is the county seat of Benton County, so it is also home to various county offices. There is a great variety of recreation opportunities in Bentonville. The police department has responsibility for traffic patrol, criminal investigation, animal control, and nuisance abatement activities. The fire department provides 24-hour ambulance service to the community in addition to its fire-fighting, fire inspection, and fire prevention education roles. Bentonville's city library has an ever-increasing inventory of books and publications for your selection. They also offer computer and Internet availability. The Bentonville utility system includes its own electric distribution system, a water distribution system with water supplied by Beaver Water District, a wastewater treatment plant, and a solid waste collection and disposal system.
