(((Realtors, Click for listing information.))) Tiburon, CA started as the Tiburon peninsula. Tiburon was a kind of paradise for the Coast Miwok people who fished, hunted game, made flour from acorns, and wove baskets from lush grasses. The Spaniards who first explored San Francisco Bay in 1775 found the natives remarkably handsome, friendly and courteous. When Irishman John Reed claimed the immense Rancho Corte Madera in 1834, the hills changed from hunting ground to pasture for thousands of cattle. Fifty years later, an entirely new sound echoed on the sunny slopes and marshes: the hoot of the steam locomotive. Peter Donahue’s decision to make Tiburon the junction between ferryboats from San Francisco and the North Pacific Railroad created a bustling, rowdy town on the sand pit, opened Belvedere for settlement, and brought multitudes of city dwellers and travelers to one of the loveliest shorelines on San Francisco Bay.
