Northglenn, Colorado is at the heart of the North Metro Area only 10 minutes from downtown Denver. The town began in 1959 when the Perl-Mack Companies broke ground on the construction of a planned community centered around a regional shopping center complex. Because Perl-Mack was the sole landowner and developer, it was able to control the layout of streets, location and design of the industrial and commercial areas, as well as planning the recreational areas and the location of schools. Northglenn grew rapidly between 1960 and 1962 and received numerous national awards that were featured in magazines such as Life, Look, and McCalls. It was declared "The Most Perfectly Planned Community in America" and officially became a city in 1969. Northglenn's great location has easy access to all the major highways, the Denver International Airport and is only minutes from downtown and the mountains. Denver is the home of an excellent Children's Museum, a Museum of National History, and the Denver Art Museum. It also features the Denver Zoo plus amusement parks like Six Flags and a water park. The Coliseum brings in events such as the Stock Show and Rodeo, Circus, Trade Shows and Pet Shows. Local national sports teams include the Denver Broncos and the Denver Nuggets. You don't have to drive that 10 minutes to Denver to enjoy the richness of life in Colorado. Northglenn has a community center and several large parks plus a 26-mile Greenway Trail system. One of the parks, the Eleanor Wyatt Centennial Park, is a unique three-acre park built to showcase seven types of landscaping that are adapted to the local climate. Local gardeners can see examples of formal, modern, plains, oriental, mountain, old-fashioned and Mediterranean landscape designs. The Northglenn school system is also fantastic. It is served by Adams County School District #12. Located within the city limits are eight elementary schools, three junior highs and one high school. The district also contains a second high school located in nearby Thornton that many Northglenn teenagers also attend. All in all, Northglenn is known by its residents as being safe, convenient, clean, friendly and a great place to live. If you are looking for a charming, scenic city with delightful neighborhoods - check out Northglenn. |
