1831 - First pioneer settlers arrive in the
area (John McGovney family) back in 1831. Mokena was platted to parallel
Rock Island right-of-way on land owned by Allen Denny. The Rock Island
Railroad completed through Mokena in 1853. Mokena was incorporated as a
village in 1880. |
