East Kingston, New Hamsphire's history buffs say there is evidence
of native encampments around Powwow Hill. However, nothing remains of East
Kingston's early inhabitants. The town grew up around the saw and grist
mill at the Trickling Falls on the edge of the Powwow Pond. The most
famous resident remains Ebenezer Webster, father to Daniel Webster.
This is a pastoral village with no industry (but with a designated industrial zone), one Methodist church, two restaurants, an 18 hole public golf course and far more turkeys than residents (Maplevale Turkey Farm hatches over 65,000 turkeys annually). East Kingston provides that old fashion feeling where "everybody knows your name" and neighbors help neighbors. This tiny community is content with agriculture and home-based businesses that allow residents to enjoy the piece and quiet of country living not too far from life's conveniences. The busy times are around the holidays when turkey is traditionally eaten, deer hunting season and Old Home Day. |
