Humble, Texas was founded in 1886 when Pleasant Humble began a ferry service across the San Jacinto River.  In 1904, oil was discovered and Humble became a Boomtown. Humble Oil Company (now Exxon) took its name from this community. Humble is 26 miles from Houston with its cultural/recreational events. Located at the edge of "Piney Woods" this largely forested. Humble is located by the San Jacinto River and close to Lake Houston.

Humble Independent School District (HISD) has 2 high schools, 5 junior high schools, and 17 elementary schools that serve 23,000 students. During the 1997-98 school year Humble ISD students' average score was 528 on Verbal and 533 on math; above the national average. The area is serviced by several private/parochial schools.

Kingwood Community College offers credit and non-credit courses and technical training. Many graduates attend University and the University of Houston, which offer a wealth of opportunities for continued education. Other universities in the area are University of St. Thomas, South Texas College of Law, Texas Southern University, and Houston Baptist University.

Deerbrook Regional Mall is located has all the major department stores and many specialty shops. Recently a new theater opened with 24 screens with all the latest movies. Local pride shines with events such as the "Good Oil Days" in April, the Rodeo Parade and Festivities in March, the Christmas Parade, and the Fireworks Display in July to name just a few. Humble has the Humble Bicentennial Museum plus four parks in the area including one with an arboretum and a nature center. Humble is surrounded by numerous public and private golf courses.
