Portsmouth, Virginia is just a short ferry ride across the Elizabeth
River from bustling downtown Norfolk. Portsmouth is a quaint town just
30 square miles in size. Portsmouth has a population of around 101,000; this
beautiful city is filled with charm and rich history over 300 years.
Portsmouth offers a variety of historic districts featuring homes with a
rich diversity of architectural styles. With one of the oldest working
harbors in the country, visitors can expect to see a wide range of ships
passing by the famous Seawall, from passenger cruise liners to the largest
Navy aircraft carriers.
Norfolk Naval Shipyard, the oldest, largest shipyard is located in
Portsmouth, along with the Naval Medical Center, the nation's oldest Naval
hospital. One can enjoy harbor tours, outdoor festivals like the Portsmouth
Seawall Festival (which is held simultaneously with Norfolk's Harborfest
