understand how search engines work. The Internet is fast becoming a two
tiered system. One tier is the pay for placement search engine or directory that ranks sites based on
a fee. The other tier is the rankings by popularity. This is

When a search engine spiders your site it looks to see what sites
you link to. It then visits these sites to see if they offer a return
link. If they offer a return link it will do a key word search (i.e. real
estate) to see if both sites offer similar content. If they offer similar
content it will do a visitor count and place all these numbers in a math
formula that changes 2 or 3 times each year to determine a popularity
rating (ranking) for that search engine. Some sites consider the number of
pages on a site and include this in its math formula as well. The keyword

into generating pages that are found by people searching for real estate
related information on the Internet. Your first benefit is a search page
for each town where you have a link. Your second benefit is the value of
the visitor count a site like this receives from having approximately
65,000 pages devoted exclusively to real estate.
If you have a site from one of the mass production real estate
services (Realtor.com or Homes.com) you have an extremely nice site that is identical to 50 to 100 other
Realtors in your town. There is nothing one of these companies can do to
promote one site over another. It is your responsibility to
generate links to your site if you want it to rank
above your competition.
